Cincinnati Dance Marathon

Image

To quote a fellow Delt, your very own Sergeant at Arms Riley Quinn, “I just want to dance!” was the theme for the 24 hour Philanthropy Cincinnati Dance Marathon held from February 25th at noon until noon the 26th.  More than 825 participants were registered for the event that raised over $26,000 for Children’s Hospital.  Even though ATO and Gamma Phi Beta won the most spirited and Kappa Delta registered the most attendees, Delts made their presence known constantly throughout the event by sending 20 members who took their turn throughout the event while raising $500.  CDM was a great experience for anyone who went and heard the stories of these children who have been bestowed miracles with the help and expertise of the staff at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.  Between their inspiring stories, fun-filled events like musical chairs and basketball, and of course dancing, CDM had yet another successful year.  Thank you for all that came out for this wonderful event and hope you can help support it when it returns next winter.

Sweetheart

This year six sororities participated in Delt’s Next Top sweetheart.  The six sororities competing were, Delta Delta Delta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Theta Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Theta, Chi Omega, and Kappa Delta.  One person was nominated from each sorority to compete.  These six ladies competed in three nights of competition and at the end the brother of Gamma Xi would vote who they wanted to be their Next Top Sweetheart.

The first night consisted of a obstacle course where two Delts would team up with one of the nominees to get the fastest time.  After all had completed their race, they then decorated coolers.  They decorated the cooler based on how they viewed Delta Tau Delta.

The second night was a cooking competition.  Each sweetheart nominee would bring a dish of some sort then they had to construct something using brownies and rice crispy treats as building blocks.

The final night was a formal dinner with a theme of Heaven and Hell.  All of the sweetheart nominees wore angel’s wings.  That night we voted and we announced the winner on Tuesday at meeting to the lucky lady who won the competition.  The winner was Danielle Pyles from Theta Phi Alpha.

Super Bowl Watch Party with ATΩ

On Super Bowl Sunday 2012, the men of Gamma Xi gathered and walked down to the Alpha Tau Omega shelter house, to enjoy the Super Bowl with our neighbors and friends. Each chapter provided home cooked foods and dips to contribute to the party. With a large amount of people in attendance, it was very interesting to see which team everyone was rooting for. The game concluded in a New York Giants victory. This year’s event marked the beginning of a tradition between the two chapters that will be continued next year at the Delt shelter.

Northern Division Conference 2012

This year the Northern Division conference was held in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. Those brothers who attended were Bryan Hafertepe, AJ Wehr, Joshua Kellam, Danny Parrot, Cameron Collins, Alejandro Gutierrez and Ross Schreiber. The weekend was kicked off with reports from every chapter, and followed by a long day of learning sessions tailored to different aspects of fraternity leadership. The next morning the delegates heard speeches from distinguished alumni including Northern Division president Tom Calhoon. Many great ideas were taken away from these sessions and will be used in the proper ways to continue Gamma Xi’s development and growth.  The conference was held at the JW Marriott right across the street from the Lucas Oil Stadium and the infamous “Super Bowl Village”. The brothers who attended the conference enjoyed the scenery and nightlife with brothers form chapters across the Northern Division, making it a very productive and successful weekend.

Christmas Party

Image

This winter Gamma Xi held a Christmas party to celebrate the holidays. All brothers were invited as well as alumni and friends of the chapter giving it a real “family feel”. The night began with a potluck dinner in the lower level of the shelter, complete with decorations and a Christmas tree. Later, a white elephant gift exchange was held, where everyone donated and received various gifts. The night was a great success, making the shelter seem even more of a hospitable place to all in attendance.

Stained Glass Installed

Workers completed the installation of the final stained glass piece in the new Shelter today.  The crest and the eight founding fathers are featured.

The artist who crafted the glass was recently featured online in the Cincinnati Enquirer.  Click here to view the video about him.
